Serving Indianapolis, Indiana

Here at Mike Raisor Auto Group, we're proud to serve the Lafayette and Indianapolis areas. Located just an hour away, Indianapolis is the state capital and the most populous city in Indiana.  Indianapolis is home to more than 872,000 people, with more than 2 million in the metropolitan area. With a rich history, diverse culture, and plenty of local attractions, Indy is truly one of a kind.

Brief History

Indianapolis was once the home of many indigenous peoples, including the Delaware. It was first developed as a planned city in 1821, and made the seat of the Indiana state government. The name "Indianapolis" means "Land of the [American] Indians," and it quickly developed in the nineteenth century as a Midwestern capital. The first major federally funded highway in the US ran through the city (also known as "National Road"), and the Madison and Indianapolis Railroad gave the city one of its nicknames: "Railroad City." Today, the city is known as the home of the Indianapolis 500 and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and it's also the home of the Indianapolis Colts.

Attractions

One of the top attractions in the area is the Indianapolis Zoo. The Zoo has an aquarium and botanical garden, and it's notable for being entirely supported by memberships, admissions, sales, and grants as opposed to tax support. The zoo has forest, desert, and plain biomes, as well as animals like dolphins, walruses, meerkats, tortoises, and more. The zoo is the perfect place for your next family outing. Another top attraction is the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, also called "The Brickyard," which is the former home of the U.S. Grand Prix. This massive racetrack holds the famous annual 500-mile race, and it's been around since 1909. Believe it or not, the Speedway is the highest-capacity sports venue in the world, which makes it a marvel to see in person-even when races aren't happening.

Things to Do

Other things to do in the Indianapolis area include the White River State Park, which has gardens, museums, and live concerts, and you can also visit the Children's Museum of Indianapolis for exhibits on arts and culture. Adults will enjoy taking a tour of local bars and breweries on the Indy Beer Mile, and the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra puts on memorable events throughout the year.
